We rescued Berry on August Bank Holiday 2022 from Many Tears Animal Rescue. She is from Ireland and was used on a puppy farm for two years. She was just over 2 when we collected her. When we went to collect her she was frightened and refused contact from anyone except for Shannon who looked after her at the rescue centre. We got her home and let her out of the crate she traveled home in. She went under a bench in the back yard and cowered for 4 hours. Hated visitors and didn't like contact with us. After 7 weeks she started to decompress as we took her out of her comfort zone and walked her by letting her lead the way. At 10 weeks she is now off lead and at 13 weeks (1/12/22) we are starting to see part of the dog she is going to become. It was 57 days before she would even tackle the stairs (Wife slept downstairs). She is becoming a cheeky monkey now and we have started taking her on pack walks which in the summer can result in 20+ dogs. She has no issue with other dogs but is wary and hand shy of people. I do post videos of her antics on the many tears website.
Her house training is a work in progress. We have dog flaps which she will use but refuses to go out into the back garden on her own as this is still a very scary place. We are winning this battle slowly but surely.
Berry took 4 1/2 months to go through the dog flaps to toilet alone in the garden. She is no longer frightened by people and will actively approach them. She has completed 5 sessions of obedience and is also a gold+ level sniffer dog and is now going to agility in Mayford. Berry is at her best when working so I push her limits and she continues to respond well.
Berry has been with us 20 months (April 2024) and has entered her adolescent phase two years late.
