I've always hung out with animals. As a kid it was dogs, cats, goats, rats, gerbils, hamsters, stick insects and then I began volunteering with the RSPCA and looking after the kennels in my hometown in my late teens. Cleaning out up to 50 or so kennels on a daily basis.
As an adult I travelled the world house sitting and looking after various cats and dogs. In both roles I found I was quite good at getting to know and socialise animals who were normally ostracised, desocialised, scary, feral, isolated, and so on. That side of things takes a lot of patience and is very rewarding.
The rest of the time I just like walking or hanging out with animals and that has, happilly, also rubbed off on my kids. Who are the biggest and loveliest animals of all (and they would say the same about me!).
My last dog was a working cocker mix. Over the years I have looked after many cockers, along with alsatians, english bulls, staffies, german wire haired pointers and a great many mixes.
My last cat was a mix and I have looked after all sorts of mogsters from Persians and Sphynxes to feral farm cats in the French countryside and multiple housebound cats in middle eastern countries.
My motivation for being a dog walker/pet sitter is simply to be more active, doing something I enjoy.
